The 7th International Conference Modern Trends in Structural Materials COMAT 2022 took place in Pilsen on September 6 - 8, 2022. Almost 90 participants from 6 countries listened to 36 lectures and viewed 20 posters. After a two-year break caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the conference could take place this year in the traditional format again.
The conference was opened by Professor Michael Brünig, Vice Dean of the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences at the Bundeswehr University Munich (Germany). He dedicated his lecture to biaxial experiments on damage and fracture behavior of anisotropic ductile metals. The second plenary lecture was given by Professor Zuzanka Trojanová from the research organization COMTES FHT (Czech Republic). The lecture dealt with anisotropy of mechanical and physical properties of magnesium alloys and composites prepared by spd methods.
However, the thematic scope of the conference lectures was traditionally much broader. Researchers presented innovations not only in the fields of advanced materials analysis, non-ferrous metals, steel processing and properties, additive manufacturing, but also material models and modelling of technological processes.
The programme also included commercial presentations by KEYENCE INTERNATIONAL (Belgium) NV/SA (Czech Republic), AIR PRODUCTS spol. s r.o. (Czech Republic), "TMV SS" s.r.o. (Czech Republic) and IDIADA CZ a.s. (Czech Republic), which enriched the lecture programme.
The prize for the best poster has been awarded to Tomáš Janda from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. In his work he presented the effect of processing parameters in preheated tool for press hardening on mechanical properties of modern high strength steel.
Another interesting point of the conference program was an excursion to the research organization COMTES FHT a.s. in Dobřany. Participants had the opportunity to visit the COMTES FHT Science and Technology Park with a short presentation about the company. Among other things, they visited several laboratories and test rooms.
The next 8th COMAT conference will take place in 2024.
