The 8th International Conference Modern Trends in Structural Materials COMAT 2024 took place in Pilsen on September 10 - 12, 2024. Almost 80 participants from 9 countries listened to 29 lectures and viewed 20 posters.
The conference was opened by Professor Peter M. Anderson from Ohio State University with his plenary lecture „Laser Powder Bed Fusion of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys". The second plenary lecture „Testing of materials and structures for high dynamic loading"was given by Dr. Norman Herzig from Nordmetall GmbH (Germany). Third plenary speaker was Professor Carolin Körner from Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany) and she presented the lecture „Voxel based material design by electron beam additive manufacturing“.
However, the thematic scope of the conference lectures was traditionally much broader. Researchers presented innovations not only in the fields of advanced materials analysis, non-ferrous metals, steel processing and properties, additive manufacturing, but also material models and modelling of technological processes.
The programme also included commercial presentations by the companies "TMV SS" s.r.o. (Czech Republic), Carl Zeiss spol. s r.o. (Czech Republic) and AXIOM TECH s.r.o. (Czech Republic), which enriched the lecture programme.
The prize for the best poster has been awarded to Marušáková Daniela from Research Centre Rez (Czech Republic) with her poster Corrosion Resistance of Alumina-Forming Austenitic Steels Under Simulated Accident Conditions for SCWR and SCW-SMR Applications.
Another interesting point of the conference program was an excursion to the research organization COMTES FHT a.s. in Dobřany. Participants had the opportunity to visit the COMTES FHT Science and Technology Park with a short presentation about the company. Among other things, they visited several laboratories and test rooms.
The next 9th COMAT conference will take place in 2026.
