Michael Brünig studied civil engineering at the University of Hannover. Then he was research assistant and received his doctoral degree at the Ruhr-University Bochum. Afterwards, he moved to the University of Dortmund and worked as senior researcher and lecturer. During this period he finished his habilitation. Since 2010 Michael Brünig has been working as full professor for mechanics at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich. His research field is modeling of plasticity, damage and failure of engineering materials based on experiments and numerical simulations.
